Cold weather and big Pike

After a couple phone calls we made the plan to go fishing. The weather was Quiet cold maximum temperature of 6 degrees. So on the water with a little bit of wind the thermometer didn't got further than three degrees. But anyway.

We went out to fish in the harbors because most off the baitfish should be there. On the dephtsounder we did see balls of fish with some big curves around them. We decided that it would probably be the best way for trolling.

We did this just to find out if the pike was willing to strike. We started with a couple big rubbers. Megacrub and bulldawgs. Within 5 minutes the first strike was counted. But because we drove the boat with high speed for 20 minutes , not al off our fingers where capable to react . I checked the lure and we went further . One hundred meters after the point were we had the first strike the first pike was caught. After releasing the pike which had a length of 89 cm . I had a quick look at the depthsounder. Underneath the boat there were on half water big signals. So I said to my partner , just try casting for a couple of minutes. One big advantage is when your casting your body is in motion so your warming up. But anyway, my partner was a bit skeptical about it so after 25 five casts i had the first strike. I lost the pike on a big shad . Still he was not convinced but 5 minutes later the second pike was landed and it was bigger 103 cm. After a couple of bites my mate tried a jerkbait The Slider . Within ten minutes he hooked a big pike . After a good struggle with the fish a pike of 106 was landed . My mate was really satisfied , at first we didn't think that we would catch more than two pike but within one and a half hour we had four pikes and two over the magic meter and a lot of bites.

After an hour we decided to troll again . While we were having lunch we passed a lot of baitfish and when we crossed the spot immediately a pike hit. We decided to cast , and again pike followed. But these where smaller specimen.

Because the time was passing rapidly and a lott of fisherman had already fished in the area. We decided to fish closer to the boat ramp in another small harbor. We didn't see fish on the dephtsounder so trolling was the solution after 5 minutes rob my mate had a big attack and a good fight followed . After landing the fish and taking photo's we measured the monster. 114 cm a personal best for my mate rob.

After this we did see the baitfish on the bottom so again i was starting to cast around the boat. And another pike made the mistake to attack the sinking fatso. this was a smaller one, around 90 cm. After this excellent result we decided to go home the sun was almost gone and I had to change one off my headlights of my car so we ended a perfect day. 9 pikes three over one meter.
