In the case of all Salmo jerkbaits it is very important to comply with our recommendations on tackle. The optimal tackle for fishing with SALMO jerkbaits includes a rod of maximum length of 1,80 - 2,10 m and a casting weight of 100g, and middle size multiplier reel with the braided line of the diameter 0,20 - 0,25 mm. Such tackle allows you to fish safely and without tiring for many hours, and also allows you to land, with a little luck, practically any fish of any size. The rod must be short for three reasons - less fatigue from casting with such heavyweight lure, faster and more firm setting the hook and better lure presentation. You should jerk this lure standing in the boat as high as possible, pointing at the water surface with the rod tip (to reach the maximum diving depth). Thus, the longer rod would only disturb. Besides, the rod must be stiff. We are casting with a really large and heavyweight lure. Treble hooks are large and thick, so difficult to set. You must use a lot of force to set the hook. It is possible only with a very stiff rod and a stretch-free, strong braided line. The advantages of using a multiplier reel for fishing with large lures are even more obvious. Casting with this kind of reel we do not keep the line on our finger, so we protect our fingertip from being cut. During the cast and just after, the flight of our lure should be controlled to avoid tangles of the lower treble hook with the leader. Moreover, we should always try to place a lure in the water as quietly as possible. It can be achieved only by slowing down the lure in the last phase of its flight. With the traditional spinning reel, doing that by pressing the line to the spool with our fingertip, we would feel distinct abrasions of fingertips epidermis already after a couple of casts. Multiplier reel allows us to achieve the same effect by pressing the spool itself. The necessary addition to this tackle is a heavy-duty leader equipped with well-proven snap.
